Hi and welcome to the Yakuza Smile band page.. officially the WORST band web page to come from a band that consists of a web-design student, a copywriter/web manager, and a full fledged ad-man!! (and actually isnt our new guy into IT and stuff... oh brother!!)HERE IS THE LATEST NEWS:
With one Yakuza heading home for New Zealand at the end of August, and another for Aussie in September, the Yakuza boys have decided to call it a day and send themselves off with a gloriously self-important farewell gig on 27 August, wiping that Yakuza Smile off your faces. [Hang on… we'll give you a minute to take that in... it's ok to cry a little... we did (a lot).] So please get your sweet asses down to De Heeren van Aemstel on Rembrandtplein with everyone you know, to see Yakuza Smile for officially the last time ever in Amsterdam (that we know of at this time). As some of you may know, Yakuza Smile recently became a 4-peiece, adding the Kiwi human drum machine, Caleb ‘Buff K’ McNabb to the line-up and promoting former drummer, Corey O’Netake to second guitar, hence creating a sonic soundscape like no other. The band has been rocking out harder than ever as a four piece and has introduced a few new songs into the repertoire. So in addition to debuting (and retiring) these songs at De Heeren van Aemstel on 27 August, the Yakuzas have spent the summer in the studio and have put down a number of these tracks onto 'digital tape' (that’s what they use now, right?). Therefore, as a special surprise at this gig (not unlike receiving socks and undies at xmas time once again) the boys will be giving away FREE CDs containing these tracks, as a special memento to all those who have supported them over the past 2 years. Yakuza Smile will be supported by Amsterdam-based, Kiwi songsmith, Mike Berry, who’s serenades will make your insides swoon like a melted Eskimo Pie. There will also be a number of other special guests, DJ Olly and general frivolity (everyone’s favourite military office) to keep you entertained until the wee hours. More information on this will be provided when it comes to hand. It’s a Thursday night, but who cares? Bring your boss along, and spike their drink. Friday will be a breeze from thence onwards. Come say, “Sayonara” to Yakuza Smile! Doors open 20:00 Predoor 5.00 - plse email info@homegrown-events.com http://www.homegrown-events.com/yakuza-smile-s-sayonara-show-de-heeren-van-aemstel/

THE NEWS OF YESTERDAYS PAST (still worth checking for video links, picture links, and general oddness): So on the gig front, we have been shooting ourselves in the foot. We've had to turn down several gigs so far over the summer due to conflicts with our schedules... what conflicts you ask? Dont worry its not work related, we'd piss work if in a moment, no our problem is this band of international misfits all have 'the bug' and are spreading ourselves out across these great lands all summer long!! The good news is that even though we turned down a few oppurtunities we have a several lined up for August and September. In the meantime, we are working on booking in some stuff for when we are all here over this summer! Rumour has it we might be branching out to Germany next..... We are excited to get out with our new full-line up and recently have put more effort into the quiet acoustic side of 'the smile' so we can open up more oppurtunties to play for you all. We love all the great venues that have been having us over the last year and look forward to playing them many times again in the future, but we want more More MORE and will branch it out to some of the smaller places that cant support a full a band!!! So that is all, but one last thing, be sure to check us out on facebook (as we have followed all the cool kids over there from myspace) were we keep things much more updated (and fun... yea I'll say, we are some funny-m.f.ers....heheh) and speaking or arrogance... here is a set of pictures from out last show as a three piece. We want to briefly update you on the happenings around the Yakuza Smile camp. First off we have a massive gig coming up on SATURDAY APRIL 25 at Bitterzoet! It is a special night put on by Homegrown Events and is for the Austrilia/New Zealand National Holiday ANZAC DAY. It should be an incredible night. We will be playing after another Kiwi fella named Mike Berry. Check out the sites for further details about the event, but take it from us, it's gonna be a blowout of a saturday!! APRIL 25th at Bitterzoet Mike Berry will play from aprox 8:30 to 9:15 and we will go on around 9:30 or so and play for about an hour. Get there early and enjoy the atmosphere and the rest of the festivities!! It really is gonna be a fun night with lots of good people hanging out and having a good time so dont miss it!! We also want to announce this will be our last gig as a three piece! We have recruited a new drummer and will be moving things around, changing up the sound, and sending our old drummer over to a second guitar in order to fatten up that live sound and bring a new dimmension to the Y.S. experience!! We will further up date with some gigs under this new format. It should be a great thing, but in the meantime dont miss our last gig as a trio on Saturday the 25th!!!! Lastly we have been threatening the release of new audio recordings for quite some time now, but unfortunatly everything is locked up tight in the vaults for the moment. We have been into the studio a few times over the past months and are awaiting, among other things, the studio version of PLANS to pop into our mail box but that hasnt happened yet. As for the 8 or so tracks we recorded a few months back in the studio in Rotterdam, well, they are sitting in various locations just begging to be worked on by either the studio techs who recorded us or by the Yakuza's themselves, unfortuntaly nobody seems to have the time or care to work with them.... but stay tuned!!! It's summertime and the blood should start flowing again, so be prepared for anything!! Fo now if you so desire you can listen to and download song created by of the Yakuza's to supplement a school project. Its nice little song with a special guest vocalist. Not your typical Y.S. smile song. Go ahead and take a look: HERE As always The Audio Page has some older demo and live recordings for streaming and soon we will have a new selection for download. If you would like a cd-r of our original demo you can download and burn it yourself here or email us at: info@yakuzasmile.com and we will send you one!! If you are interested in booking YAKUZA SMILE for a gig, have a look at our contact pageor mail us at info@yakuza-smile.comyou can reach any of us Jaccuzi's at: and as soon as he pays his dues: Stay tuned for more........ |
